Case Study Part 4: Colour Analysis
Colour Schemes in the magazine
Hello magazine uses a variety of soft colours
throughout to emphasise the sophistication and professionalism of the magazine.
This is due to the constant use of colours such as; white, cream, beige, pastel pinks and red. Light colours such as white and cream have connotations of purity, innocence and wholeness and completeness. Other colours such as red have more drastic connotations such as love, danger and power. Using red and white for the logo of Hello magazine makes it easily recognisable when on the stands amongst other magazines. The use of white and red creates and interesting contrast, with red being such a harsh colour, it being the background compliments the white very well. The front cover of the magazine uses a mixture of these colours; this makes the magazine look perfect and eye catching. The only thing that differs is the font size. The white font increases in size to attract attention to information on the cover that is most appealing to the readers. Points of information that the editor wants the readers to see the most.

There is a flow of use of these colours throughout
the magazines. All the articles stick to using the same colour palette, only
rarely there is a use of a different colour. With all the articles blending in
together it brings to magazine closer and makes it look neat and tidy.
White
is used as a base to the articles; it is used as a background for many pages.
This allows a larger range of colours to be used on the page as it will be more
visible. It allows the editor to easily create a theme which is suitable for
the readers of the magazine which are mainly young sophisticated females. The
images taken for every article by famous photographers are also made more
appealing and eye catching against a white, clean, crisp background.
Black is a colour which is
used for the font in the magazine, the use of this colour is quite
stereotypical. Black is most often used for the font; it helps the readers read
the article with ease, as there are no alarming colours to distract them from
the article. The headings are in different colours for the reader to be more
clear on what they are about to read.
